Conviction
(#68 “Conviction", from “Beyond the Third Door”)
This is a conviction that stands when
my bones burn.
This is a conviction that perseveres when
my heart shatters.
This is a drive that out-powers addiction.
This is a path of desolation.
This is a desert road with no mirage.
A final decision rolls out and
devastation ensues.
If you want wings, face your mortality.
If you want wisdom, face your humanity.
If you want compassion, face your commonality.
If you want humility, face your face.
When the crushing blow of disillusionment
hits your chest like a fireball,
get on your knees.
Look at your confidence.
It is gone.
Stand new again and again and again.
You want what I have?
Freedom manifests of this.
